Courses
I teach both undergraduate and graduate courses. For a list of courses offered at the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, please refer to the undergraduate calendar or graduate calendar at the University of Windsor website.
BIOC-2010/2015 Organic Chemistry of Biomolecules
This is essentially Biochemistry 101, covers the structure and properties of four types of molecules of biological significance: proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, and lipids.
Textbook: Fundamentals of Biochemistry: Life at the Molecular Level, 5th Edition, ISBN:978-1-118-91840-1 (2016) by D. Voet, J.G. Voet, & C.W. Pratt.
This course is required for all the undergraduate students in the Faculty of Sciences and will be offered in Summer term 2021.
BIOC-4010 Bioinformatics, Genomics and Proteomics
This is a 4th year undergraduate course that covers the basic concepts in bioinformatics and genomics. This source offers a dry lab session besides the regular lecturing.
Textbook: Concepts in Bioinformatics and Genomics, 1st Edition, ISBN:978-0-199-93699-1 (2016) by J. Momand & A. McCurdy.
It will be offered in the Winter term 2021.
BIOC-8020 Special Topics in Biochemistry - Structural Proteomics and its Application in Drug Discovery
This course provides an introductory overview of the technologies and practices in structural proteomics and its applications. It will cover the history, current status, and the work-flow of high-throughput approaches to structural biology. It will introduce the concepts of druggability, target selection and validation, chemical probes, chemogenomics in modern drug discovery and the critical role of structural proteomics in these applications. Also, progress in several important protein families, such as kinases, methyltransferases, deubiquitinases, will be discussed. This course is intended for graduate students in life science majors who have interests in protein structural biology, want to interface with structural biologists or utilize the knowledge in their study and research.
It will be offered in the Winter term 2021.
